Caffeine


What is Caffeine?

Caffeine is a clear multipart that is found especially in tea and coffee plants and is an energizer of the central nervous system. Caffeine itself comes from a plant that is generally found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, and cocoa powder.


Sources of Caffeine

Caffeine is mainly found in coffee, tea, and energy drinks. The US Food and Drug Administration doesn't require manufacturers to list caffeine content on nutrition labels. It's often hard to tell what products contain caffeine and how much is in the product.


Recommended Amounts of Caffeine

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that healthy adults limit intake of caffeine to 300 to 400 milligrams daily. There is no safe limit for children. For comparison, an average cup of coffee contains about 100 milligrams of caffeine.

Addiction to caffeine can occur when you consistently take caffeine. Your body becomes physically dependent on caffeine. If you decide to go without your normal intake of caffeine you may have these symptoms:


· Headache

· Bad temper

· Confusion

· Nervousness

· Impatience

· Tiredness


Symptoms that may occur if you have too much caffeine:

· Fever

· Sleeplessness

· Irregular heartbeat

· Increased sensitivity to touch or pain

· Ringing in the ears

· Seizures

· Thirst

· Frequent urination

· Addiction
